So letвЂ™s say I just wanted to replace the T at the beat that starts at the beginning of each line, so that would be this and tree are both beginning the lines, so weвЂ™re looking for a T at the beginning of the line what we can do here is we can give it the caret symbol which on a standard keyboard most no difficult of different keyboards but itвЂ™s over the six on most keyboards.

We can create a new file by redirecting into it so we can take the output of this and put it into new.txt or whatever you want to call it, so now we can cat out new.txt.

G, which stands for global, meaning find all the lowercase TвЂ™s and transform them, so there we go thatвЂ™s what weвЂ™ve got now weвЂ™ve got every T is now an uppercase T on every line again we have not modified the actual file yet.

Still, we have only modified the first T in each line to be capital youвЂ™ll notice that the second T and the third T and the other T on that line doesnвЂ™t work, so basically, at this point, we havenвЂ™t modified the original file. WeвЂ™re going to give in between the first and second forward slash what we want to replace, what string we want to replace, and the second one what weвЂ™re going to replace it with, so for example, I can say T here and then here I can put an uppercase T because weвЂ™re gonna be replacing the lowercase TвЂ™s with uppercase TвЂ™s if I hit enter at this point weвЂ™ll see the lines from the text file.
